Donald Nelson, Chief Technology Officer and Systems Architect

Donald Nelson

Chief Technology Officer & Systems Architect

Donald Nelson is the Chief Technology Officer and lead systems architect at Marketing & Tech Solutions. He brings more than 15 years of experience across enterprise technology, systems architecture, data and analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and business process engineering.

Donald specializes in designing technology as a connected system rather than a collection of individual tools. His work brings together applications, data, APIs, automation, reporting, AI, and governance so that technology supports how a business actually operates and can continue to scale as its needs change.

His background spans financial services, insurance, education, professional services, and other complex operating environments. Throughout his career, he has worked at the intersection of business and technology—translating operational problems, regulatory requirements, and business goals into system architecture, data structures, automation, technical requirements, and reusable technology capabilities.

Donald’s expertise includes:

  • Enterprise systems and solution architecture
  • Data architecture, integration, reporting, and analytics
  • AI strategy, generative AI, and enterprise AI platforms
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and enterprise knowledge systems
  • AI product strategy, discovery, adoption, and platform development
  • Technology, data, and AI governance
  • Compliance-by-design and policy-driven system architecture
  • Workflow automation, APIs, CRM, and systems integration
  • Cloud platforms, Microsoft Power Platform, and connected business applications
  • High-performance website and digital platform architecture
  • Technology evaluation, solution design, and technical roadmapping

What distinguishes Donald’s approach is his ability to move between the business problem and the underlying technical architecture. He looks beyond the immediate request to understand where data originates, how systems interact, where work is duplicated, what should become reusable, where controls belong, and how the solution will operate after it is deployed.

That approach has shaped enterprise initiatives ranging from data warehouses and CRM platforms to automation programs, governance systems, and AI platforms. His recent work includes product ownership and architecture for enterprise generative AI capabilities, building AI discovery and adoption programs, designing RAG-based knowledge solutions, and embedding governance and compliance requirements directly into technology rather than relying solely on manual controls.

Donald has also led technology and automation initiatives producing multimillion-dollar operational impact and has helped scale enterprise AI adoption to approximately 900–1,200 users. His experience gives him a practical view of emerging technology: AI and automation are valuable when they solve a defined business problem, integrate cleanly with existing systems, and can be governed and measured.

Donald holds a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of South Florida.

At MTS, Donald leads the technology architecture behind the systems clients rely on—from high-performance websites and CRM platforms to data flows, APIs, automation, reporting, and AI-enabled capabilities. His focus is to remove unnecessary complexity, connect the right systems, and build technology that is reliable, maintainable, measurable, and capable of growing with the business.
